In Numbers 1, the Levites were given a very important position. God was handing down a command to separate the men and create the troops. The Levites, Moses tribal heritage, was taken out from the count, and was put in charge of a very important task. That task was to watch over the tabernacle. They were not to fight in any battles! Their only job was to take down the tabernacle, and put up the tabernacle. To also surround the tabernacle with their tents. Simple enough? I think they had a great responsibility, and a much easier job than to worry about fighting any battles. Numbers 16:8-10
Moses also said to Korah, Now listen, you Levites! Isnt it enough for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the rest of the Israelite community and brought you near himself to do the work at the Lords tabernacle and to stand before the community and minister to them? He has brought you and all of your fellow Levites near himself, and now you are trying to get the priesthood too
Now we get to Korah, who was also a Levite. Korah decided in Numbers 16 to instigate his own rebellion towards Moses. Which of course was rebellion toward God. Scripture says that Numbers 16:32:
And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, with their households and all Korahs men and all their possessions.
Wow! I look at this and see what discontentment can do, what jealousy,
Materialism, greed etc etc can do. Korah clearly broke the 10th commandment, and coveted Moses leadership, and that created his ultimate ruin, and judgment from God.
The next time you find yourself discontent or finding your goal going after something that is even a LITTLE greedy. Remember, we may lose it without getting anything better. Don’t be goal driven, be God Driven. Greed, materialism, jealousy, can blind us in our walk. It puts the focus on us. I want more, I want what they have, I want that nice house, I want that nice car, I want that position at work. What happens is… these “I wants” can sometimes become “….And I’ll do anything to get it”.
Remember. Want what you already have, and I pray that its Christ!
