1 Samuel 15:22
“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams”
What was Samuel saying here? Should we not sacrifice? NO… not at all. We need to make sacrifices every day. What God is looking at is our hearts though. Do you go to church on Sunday Mornings because you just have to? Do you give/tithe because it’s just something you have to do because when they pass that basket; and you don’t put money in, it will be embarrassing, or do you do it with joy? You know, you just can’t do things for the sake of doing them. God is looking at our hearts. He wants us to serve him with joy, and honor. Before I was a Christian, I could remember when they passed the basket, and I would put my $1.00 bill in it, and my occassional $5.00, and maybe on Christmas and Easter I’d put $20.00 in. OH BOY! You know, now… I wouldn’t even write a check or give if I wasn’t excited to see what God was going to do with it. Not necessarily in my life, but in the life of others! God doesn’t judge how much you give, He cares about your HEART. If our HEARTS were right, we’d give the 10%(Tithe) that God calls us to give, and we’d give it with NO WORRIES, and COMPLETE JOY!
It’s a time of year that we may make sacrifices, and perform certain ritualistic ceremonies in our churches. Do you go up for Communion or share in the Supper ceremony because you have to, or it’s something you’re supposed to do, or is your HEART truly right before God. Are you doing it out of devotion to Christ? Are you right with your Brothers and Sisters in Christ before you do it?
Do you perform these rituals out of devotion to Christ or is it just something that you have to do? Where is your heart when you’re sacrificing? In all that you do… think DEEP. THINK… am I doing this for a ‘show’, am I doing this to GET SOMETHING, am I doing this for any SELFISH reason?
Am I doing this for the Glory of God… Is my heart right? – Believe me, God KNOWS that answer!
1 Corinthians 10:31
“Whatever you do, whether eating or drinking, do it all for the Glory of God”
