“Unbroken” is a world war II movie which is directed by Hollywood’s famous actress Angelina Jolie. This movie is based upon a novel named “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption” written by Laura Hillenbrand based on a true story of an American soldier named “Louis ‘Louie’ Zamperini during World War II.
Louis is an Italian-American boy who lives in California with his parents and elder brother Peter. Louis suffers by other boys for being Italian. He used to ran away from school, drinks liquor and smokes which disappointed his parents. But his elder brother Peter help him to turn his life. With Peter’s help he grown-up as a runner. For his running speed he achieved the title – “The Torrance Tornado”. He qualifies for the 1936 Summer Olympic in Germany. He becomes 8th in 5000 meters race and set a record by passing the final lap in 56 seconds. During World War II, Louis joined US Air force. In 1943, Louis and few crewmen sent for a search and rescue mission with 2 planes. But both planes get crashed in the middle ocean. None can but Louis and 2 others named Mac and Phil survive and get on 2 inflatable rafts. On the 27th day they get attacked by a Japanese plane which damages their rafts but misses them. Mac dies on the 33th day and Louie and Phil get captured by Japanese army. The Japanese tortured them for information but they can’t tell them anything because of surviving one month in the mid ocean. Their captors don’t believe them and send them in 2 different P.O.W. (Prisoner of war) camp. Louie sent to a camp in Tokyo, which is headed by a Japanese corporal named Mutsuhiro “Bird” Watanabe who tortured his prisoner cruelly. Louie and other prisoners get tortured very toughly by himself. Once, Louie get a chance to broadcast a message to home that he is alive. But he refused to broadcast an anti American message he sent back to prison again. After reaching prison, Watanabe forced all other prisoners to punch him in his face.
After 2 years,Watanabe gets a promotion and get transferred to another prison. Louie and other prisoners get relief from his torture. Few days later, Louie’s camp get damaged by US Airforce. Then, they get transferred to another prison where Louie discover that the cruel and horror Watanabe is In charge here. In this prison the prisoners put to work loading a coal barges. Once Louie twists his ankle and is unable to work. But Watanabe tells him to pick up a heavy log and ordered a soldier to shoot him if he drops it. But Louie successfully lift the wood and successfully holds It. Then Watanabe becomes angry and give him a vicious beat.
The torture ends by the winning of America and Louie and the other prisoners return back to their homeland.
